SUMMARY FROM THE 2014 INTERNATIONAL SUMMIT
The 2014 International Summit of Co-operatives was a huge success! Nearly 3000 people from 93 countries were in attendance including 211 amazing speakers. The conference also achieved an impressive social media audience of roughly 4 million users. It’s safe to say that this was the most exciting year to date! (On Co-op sent two delegates, plus a youth representative to the Summit, and assisted Co-operatives and Mutuals Canada in staffing the Place Canada exhibition booth.)
Youth engagement was a big topic of discussion with 265 youth - including CYL graduate and All 4 Each presenter Eddie Sauve - taking part in the Summit presentations and roundtables. These Young Leaders enthusiastically showed their appreciation for international co-operatives which they believe is the best model for creating a more forward thinking economy.
Advertising and communications campaigns also gained some well earned recognition at the TOP.COOP awards where nine organizations won awards for their involvement in Advertising and Marketing, Interactive and New Media, and Mobilization and Involvement. On Co-op's All 4 Each suite of youth engagement and co-op community resources won first prize in the Mobilization and Involvement category! (More information here.)
In addition to engaging speakers and valuable findings, perhaps one of the most influential outcomes from the Summit is the 2014 Declaration. The Declaration, to be released later this year, is about establishing commitments that will maximize the many benefits that the co-operative and mutual enterprises can unlock across diverse sectors and international organizations. Creators of the 2014 Declaration are encouraging everyone to contribute their own comments to the DOCUMENT. Suggestions will be accepted until October 31st, 2014 and every opinion matters so don’t be afraid to speak up!
