Gay Lea Spreads the Word about CDF

GAY LEA BUTTER SPREADS THE WORD ABOUT CDF, INTERNATIONAL DEVELOPMENT

Consumers who purchase Gay Lea spreadable butter may now get more than something to spread on their toast:  some of them will get a message about international co-operative development.

The Ontario dairy co-operative has put the slogan, "The world is our community. Ontario is our home" on the foil label in some of its spreadable butter tubs. The label  also includes the Co-operative Development Foundation of Canada (CDF) logo as well as a link to Gay Lea's corporate social responsibility website, genuinenotjust generous.com.

Michael Barrett, Gay Lea's chief operations officer and president of CDF, said the move is partly "to continue the battle to have co-operatives recognized in Canada; not only for ourselves, but for all co-ops."

"The second reason, if you excuse the pun, is that we need to 'spread' the news of the phenomenal work that is done by and through the CDF dollars."
